  1. Here is my resume: I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent. I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen, I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows mean what they say. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my friends, and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today, because I would be a cardboard cutout. But call them on the phone, and I meet them for lunch. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. via

  2. Many people fear nothing more terribly than to take a position which stands out sharply and clearly from the prevailing opinion. The tendency of most is to adopt a view that is so ambiguous that it will include everything and so popular that it will include everybody. Not a few men who cherish lofty and noble ideas hide them under a bushel for fear of being called different.

  6. I’m thinking about how they say “you should never meet your heroes” because it’ll likely end up being a disappointment. I disagree. I think getting to know my heroes—the people I most look up to—is what’s made me realize we’re all humans and there is nothing separating us from them. via

  7. "Insight porn"

    Insight porn

  8. In my opinion, health is not six pack ABS or muscles.

It's how's your brain working, how's your mood, how's your gut, how's your skin, how's your energy levels. Are you fun to be around? It's a holistic conception, and studies consistently show that veganism and vegetarianism associated with higher rates of strokes, higher rates of depression, higher rates of infertility, sperm count declines, hormonal issues, so on and so forth.

  9. Most letters from a parent contain a parent's own lost dreams disguised as good advice. My good advice to you is to pay somebody to teach you to speak some foreign language, to meet with you two or three times a week and talk. Also: get somebody to teach you to play a musical instrument. What makes this advice especially hollow and pious is that I am not dead yet. If it were any good, I could easily take it myself.

  12. Where does this leave us? It’s becoming increasingly clear that the right question regarding productivity is not whether it’s good or bad, as it’s both a reflection of our humanity and a target for exploitation. The better query is how we can more fully reclaim it — to build a life that enjoys the pleasures of accomplishments while avoiding the sting of overload and burnout. - Cal Newport
